BOTANICAL WATERCOLOR PAINTING (1 Credit Hour)
RESCHEDULED: November 5-6, 2022 | Guest Artist: Kelsey Wilson
$90 Registration Fee + $6 Materials Fee (all payable on the Grant Wood website)
Botanical painting resides at the crossroads of science and art. Students will learn about the rich tradition of botanical watercolor painting as well as modern applications and contemporary masters. Practice a variety of watercolor techniques and hone your observation skills. Kelsey Wilson will guide students through a leaf study, a fruit and vegetable study and a flower specimen study through demonstrations, one on one and group discussions. We will explore color mixing, brush control and how to compose a captivating painting.
About Kelsey Wilson:
Kelsey Wilson is an artist based in Nevada, Iowa. Her background is in Illustration and has worked in a variety of commercial and fine art capacities including food package design, picture books and art licensing. She has an MFA in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design. Her ongoing project, “Lost in the Weeds” is series of paintings of invasive plants in the Midwest that serve to inform about the devastating effects these plants are having on prairies, woodlands, and water quality.

IN ORDER TO SAVE TIME AND SIMPLIFY THE PROCESS, ALL REGISTRATION WILL NOW TAKE PLACE THROUGH GRANT WOOD AEA’S WEBSITE. THERE IS NO LONGER A NEED TO SEND REGISTRATION APPLICATION OR PAYMENT TO THE AMANA ARTS GUILD, UNLESS YOU ARE NOT REGISTERING FOR CREDIT.

Click Training Login, and Log In with your credentials.
Search for the course you’d like to register for. You can search by clicking Courses, or use Advanced Search.
Select the course. Review course information, then click Register. Read the disclaimer, and click “Accept”.
Choose credit type, click “Next”, and enter payment information.
PAYMENT WILL COVER CREDIT FEES, REGISTRATION FEES, AND MATERIALS FEES.

A Note on Credits: Graduate credit is available at $175 per credit hour though Drake University, Morningside, or Grand View. Teacher recertification is also available through Grant Wood AEA at an additional $85 per credit. Credit fees are subject to change. GWAEA has the most updated information on credit options, costs, and fees.
Gordon Kellenberger & Susan Macumber will facilitate & approve all credit arrangements. Gordon is a graduate of the University of Northern Iowa and maintains a studio in High Amana. Susan has a Masters Degree in Art Education from the University of Iowa and has been an Elementary Art teacher in the Clear Creek Amana Community School district for over 20 years. Both Gordon and Susan are members of the Amana Arts Guild Board of Directors.
A Note for Non-Credit Registrants: We have reserved two spots for non-credit registrants. If you’re interested in registering for one of these two spots, contact the Arts Guild. All classes will be held at the Amana Arts Guild Center in High Amana.
