|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 9:00 am, repeating until June 20, 2019

June 17-20 9-5 each day preregistration required $100

Drop by drop, participants will explore the ancient craft of Suminagashi by manipulating inks on the
surface of a water bath to create beautifully designed prints. They will touch on the history behind the
craft, as well as tools and techniques. We will begin our exploration by creating a suite of prints suitable
for bookbinding structures. Participants will then develop their own patterns and then transfer their
ideas to the bindery in a series of binding structures including: portfolio, pamphlets, accordions, and
Japanese Stab Bindings. Students will also have the chance to generate writing for their books. No
previous marbling or bookbinding experience is required.
