June 19-23, 2023 | Guest Artist: Joan Webster-Vore
$110 Registration Fee | $65 Materials Fee
Using fiber-reactive dyes, participants will explore a contemporary approach to the traditional Batik process of applying wax to fabric.
Learn a variety of printing and dyeing techniques using soy wax, an environmentally friendly product that is safer to use than traditional wax mixtures.
About Joan Webster-Vore:
Joan Webster-Vore has devoted her career to a study of nature. Much of her work has been influenced by observing the cornfield across the road from her home in Hudson, Iowa or by painting en plein air trying to visually capture the illusive quality of water in lakes and ponds. These paintings inform her large, mixed media installations which investigate incorporating drawing and painting with three-dimensional structures that consider the natural environment.
She grew up in Rockford, Illinois and is a graduate of the University of Iowa with a BFA in Art, an MA in Textile Design from the Department of Home Economics, and an MFA in Design from the School of Art and Art History. Her work has appeared in numerous competitive, invitational, and solo exhibitions both regionally and nationally. In 2021 she was one of the featured artists at Sioux City Art Center Select in Sioux City, Iowa and was also invited to create new work to exhibit in Compelling Ground at the Brunnier Art Museum at Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.
